The volcanic region of Devil's Spine in Dredge presents players with one of the most mysterious main storyline pursuits in the game. Navigating this perilous area requires careful planning, heat-resistant equipment, and an understanding of the local wildlife. Completing the quest line known as Flames of the Deep is essential for acquiring the final artifact required by the Collector.
Starting the Flames of the Deep Pursuit
To initiate this quest, sailors must journey to the Ancient Temple located at coordinate N13 in the southwestern reach of Devil's Spine. Upon arriving at the ruins, you will meet the Fanatic, who tasks you with retrieving three distinct flames to light the ritual crucibles. The Fanatic marks three Shrines of the Deep on your map, each demanding specific marine sacrifices to yield a Fathomless Flame.
Before attempting to gather the required offerings, ensure your vessel is fitted with volcanic fishing gear and crab pots. Navigating around Devil's Spine also requires vigilance, as the Unseeing Mother and her aggressive children stalk these fiery channels. Staying near thermal vents can help break pursuit if hostile creatures spot your ship.
Solving the Three Shrine Offerings
The first shrine is situated at coordinate P13 on the lower island's northwest side. Unlocking its Fathomless Flame requires placing one Squat Lobster and one Spider Crab into the stone altar. Both species can be harvested by deploying crab pots around the waters of Devil's Spine.
The second shrine can be found at coordinate P14 along the northeast edge of the large central island. This offering requires a Ghost Shark and a Pale Skate, both of which require specialized volcanic fishing gear. The Pale Skate is typically caught around coordinate N12 during daylight hours.
The third shrine rests on the southern shore of the northern island at coordinate O14. This stone slab requires any two aberrated fish species to unlock its contents. Using specialized abilities like Atrophy or fishing near high-panic zones will increase your chances of catching mutated variations.
Quest Rewards and Story Completion
Fulfilling the sacrifice at the O14 shrine grants you the Encrusted Talisman alongside a Fathomless Flame. This powerful equipment piece significantly boosts your fishing speed and raises the overall aberration encounter rate. Players can review full quest details in our Flames Of The Deep Dredge Quest Walkthrough And Rewards overview to optimize their loadouts.
Once all three Fathomless Flames are secured, return to the Ancient Temple at N13 to place them into the stone statues. After interacting with the Fanatic to finalize the ritual, he leaves behind the Pocket Watch artifact. Delivering this final relic back to Blackstone Isle brings you to the threshold of the game's climax.
