Embarking on the school trip to Kitakami in the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet DLC brings exciting new adventures and unique encounters. However, many Trainers eventually find themselves needing to return to the main Paldea region to resume their gym battles or access specific items. Understanding how map switching works ensures you can travel between regions whenever you choose without losing any progress.
Accessing the Regional Map Controls
Returning to Paldea from Kitakami relies entirely on your Rotom Phone's map interface rather than a physical transportation NPC. To start the process, open your main map screen while exploring anywhere in the open world of Kitakami. Once the map display is visible, look for the shoulder button prompts located in the top corner of your screen.
By pressing either the L or R button on your Nintendo Switch controller, you can instantly cycle through your available world maps. This interface function allows you to switch viewports seamlessly between Kitakami, Paldea, and any other unlocked areas.
Selecting Your Fast Travel Destination
After switching your view to the Paldea map, all of your previously unlocked Flying Taxi locations will appear on screen. Simply highlight any known destination, such as Mesagoza or a regional Pokémon Center, and confirm your fast travel selection. Your character will immediately ride the Flying Taxi back across the sea to your selected Paldean location.
This convenient travel mechanic is available quite early in the DLC expansion. You do not need to finish the main story questline in Kitakami before returning home to handle business in Paldea.
Tips for Smooth Travel Between Regions
Players can freely switch between maps at almost any time during their playthrough without restrictions. The only main exceptions occur during specific scripted story cutscenes or active battle encounters where fast travel options are temporarily disabled.
Managing your regional progress efficiently allows you to train lower-level Pokémon in Paldea or bring stronger team members into Kitakami battles. If you ever need assistance with other gameplay mechanics or quest steps, reviewing a detailed can provide helpful insights for your journey. Once you are ready to venture back to Mossui Town, simply repeat the same button toggle on your map screen to return.
